Mark Hanson

Retired Educator

My name is Mark Hanson. I grew up on a farm in the rural Madison area and graduated from Stoughton High School. I then went on to UW Oshkosh and graduated with a BAE in Art Education and graduate work at UW Whitewater and St. Cloud State University. While in college, I married my wife, Ruth, and we have two sons and three grandsons. Following a career in teaching for 38 ½ years, I immediately began volunteering at SMILES. SMILES has been the perfect fit for me as I have been a horse owner for most of my life. That, along with my educational background, fits my interests and priorities perfectly. At SMILES, I have been a volunteer wherever I have been needed and have served on the Board of Directors for 10 years. This experience has been incredibly rewarding for me all while developing lifelong friendships.
